New GMRS Repeater

CCARC club members have undertaken a GMRS service repeater project.¬† GMRS, or General Mobile Radio Service, is a radio service intended for the general public. You do need a license to use a GMRS repeater, but there’s no test involved – only a $35 fee for a 10 year license.

Nationally there has been significant interest in adding GMRS as a resource for CERT Teams and other groups involved in EmComm communications. Operating from Rockton Mountain, this new repeater would fill in a large
coverage void in Clearfield County and provide an alternate mode for the general public to access.

A Kenwood TKR-750 repeater has been made available for use in this project. Other needed equipment is in the process of being procured.¬† At this point it’s expected the new repeater will be operational within the next sixty days.
